he love it. he talks about how mitt romney, everything he says, every single thing he says he changes his mind as if he had forgotten what he said before. the president has coined romnesia. he should keep using it. sometimes the republicans have had such great success with turns of phrase such as swift voting, the quick one off to think a certain way about a certain person. romnesia is the perfect way to describe exactly what afflicts mitt romney when it comes to his own record. day we have an interesting round of good news for the president which is he has gotten endorsements today from the denver post, the tampa bay times. the salt city tribune. yes, the salt city tribune, an utah paper endorsing obama. that's good for him. he seems to have stopped the bleeding according to a lot of

polls, however he has got to go into the next debate, the next set of questions and smile. we need a president who sat there and smile, we need the president reassure us. when we see him smile everybody is happy. he has a number of things he needs to talk about. the supreme court, climate change, iraq and the fiscal cliff. he has not talked at all about the fiscal cliff. it is coming. whoever is elected will be totally responsible for that. he went on "the daily though." this is what he said with jon stewart. >> obama: the stakes could not be bigger, war peace, supreme court, women's right to choose, whether we're creating jobs in this country or whether they're getting shipped overseas, whether our kids are getting the best education they can. all of that stuff is at stake. there is no excuse not to vote. >> of course there is no excuse not to vote. but you see the president being serious, presidential, and then stewart turns the conversation

jobs when his company is outsourcing all over the world. >> it is not a new company that came out of nowhere. it's almost 100 years old. it was founded in 1916, and then texas instruments bought it in 1959. then bain capital september in in 2006, and then there is an ipo in 2010 and on schedule to close in 2012. you figure, you know, if a plant is closing things must be terrible. they have to have a reason to close because business must be horrible. look at the profits they made. in 2010 their profits were $592,000. 2011 $660,000. it's just heartbreaking. here are more stories. >> they came in and introduced their transition team. the next bullet on their meeting was by the way by the end of the the 2012 all the jobs will be moved to china.

>> we all just--aah. you could hear it in the room. it was just silent the whole time. they were talking away about their company who they were, what they do. >> and then they also informed us that they would be bringing some of the people from china for us to train. it was a slap in the face. think how you would feel, you taking my job, but then i have to train you to take my job. >> you know, these workers when you hear that, it's just so heartbreaking. in this economy and to know that the man running for president was once the head of this company that bought them out. they have a protest camp across the street from the plant right there, they're protesting what is going on in the plant. does mitt romney--no, he doesn't own bain capital. bain capital owns 51% of the company, but he still has a $8 million stake in bain capital

so there is a a tacit association between mitt romney and bain capital there always will be. we have dave johnson joining us from san francisco at our studio there, and you've been following this story for the "huffington post," dave, thank you for being on the show. these are real people. you hear about the jobs, and you hear about the numbers. when you hear about a small story about a big story it always hits home. >> michael, this is a compelling story, and it really is the center of this election. the company makes auto sensors for the automobile industry, and this is a key component for the automobile chain. they're hawking this key component up right now and sending it to china. they made the workers at this plant train their chinese replacements and they took down the american flag while those workers were here.

bain capital controls this company. i encourage anybody watching this to go to bainport.com. that's where the workers have a website to support all this. they're trying to block the trucks that come out the bain trucks shipping this equipment to china. there was a sit-in where six people were arrested. there was a sit-in asking for severance for these people. these people are asking military mitt, will you please come here and show us that you mean what you say about cracking jobs going to china. >> dave, it's interesting. this is the man who said let detroit go bankrupt. now he's saying let the company that supplies detroit go bankrupt too and sending everything overseas. does he have any control over this?

and why if the company is profitable would they be closing down any way? >> well, bain will make a bunch more money. the incentives that china gives for companies to move over there, plus the tax incentives that they get here. they can hoist a lot of costs onto the public like training these workers for new jobs and things like that to the government picks that up, and other things like that. the deal here is that china gets this component shipped to china. people at bain get fabulously wealthy doing that. the workers lose their jobs. the community is devastated. the economy of the region is more devastated when more and more of these companies move, and this is a corrupt bargain being made. if those people can use the money to influence our government, the workers and the

[ ♪ theme music ♪ ] >> as every election year brings us there are a ton of ballot initiatives and ballots on the books going out before the voters in states all across the country, none probably as interesting as amendment 64 in colorado, which is will the legalization and possession of the use of marijuana. here is more about that. >> she and her husband once run a marijuana dispensary and marketed foods with marijuana in them. now a state constitutional amendment to make it legal in colorado for adults over 21 to possess one ounce of marijuana and grow up to six plants for personal use. colorado is already one of 17 states that allow marijuana for

medical use. the business pumps $11 million a year into colorado state coffers. proponents say taxes would generate millions more for school construction. >> let's have our marijuana money go to schools rather than criminals in mexico. >> this poll from september 15th those you that the majority of coloradoans want this. 51% support and oppose, 40%. then we see a poll of the candidate in colorado. the president at 50%. mitt romney in that poll is at 47%. so marijuana more popular than either candidate, if you can believe it. when you go--well, i can believe it actually. it makes all the sense in the world. when you go on to see that poll with libertarian candidate gary johnson, in that poll president obama goes to 49% and mitt

people are talking about marijuana. what drives you to make that as the centerpiece of your campaign. people do make this association governor. >> well, it is not a centerpiece. if it's a litmus test for having a brain i accept that. we can go on to other issues, let's not bomb iran, let's get out of afghanistan. i think should throw out the federal budget,--we should balance the budget and throw out other policies. as i say the litmus test for a brain. i'll go for that one. >> when you served as governor so many positions that you espoused are embraced a lot by the democratic side. why is it--why could you not have won as democrat for presidency at a different time when so many of those issues are issues in the democratic party

takes a real hold of? >> well, i think i'm stronger than obama when it comes to civil libertyies and i think i'm stronger than romney in dollars and cents. i think i crush him. when it comes to obama i crush him. i am under the bea leave that the libertarian party embraces both people. back to marijuana wow we're arresting 1.8 million people a year in this country. we've got--we now have the highest incarceration rate of any country in the world 2.3 million people behind bars. look 90% of the drug problem is prohibition related not use related. not to discount use and abuse but that's the focus.

it's never going to become legal to smoke pot become impaired and get behind the wheel of a car. coloradoans get it. sucks years ago citizens in denver voted to decriminalize marijuana on a campaign that marijuana being safer than alcohol. having smoked and marijuana, and having drank alcohol neither of which do i do today can i tell you in no category is more dangerous than alcohol. if the 100 million americans have smoked pot and are watching this i think probably have 100 million heads nodding their heads, yes that's true. >> you make an impeccable argument. i want to ask you, are you surprised that you are taking more votes? are you surprised you're taking more votes from mitt romney than barack obama according to that poll? because i was. >> well, there are other polls. actually in new mexico, colorado

and nevada i take more votes from obama. and in michigan i take more votes from romney. it equals from both sides then i'm back to the fact look, there are liberals on social issues. >> how do you think it's going to go in colorado, and how would that manifest? >> i think it's going to pass. i say this tongue-in-cheek, but i think it passes in colorado, and then when the entire country gets on airplanes to go to denver for the weekend to chill out, i see the rest of the country falling in line with rational drug policy. i have to disagree with the sheriff that you played a teaser earlier. look, i would say in new mexico, if we legalized marijuana what about the millions of people who would want to move to your state state, entrepreneurs business people doctors lawyers that

would want to raise their kids in an environment where people aren't going to go to jail for making bad choices. >> and you know, i want to ask you one question before we let you go, governor. there is a chance that you could be the rafael nader, in quotes, the ralph nadar of 2012. how would you feel if you caused president obama the election--if you cost mitt romney the election. >> how would you feel if i cost barack obama the election. i get the sense that both of them want to pull the trigger when it comes to iran. i get the sense if either one of them are elected we'll find ourselves in a heightened police state, continued military intervention, wars we'll continue to borrow and spend money in a way that is unsustainable that is going to lead to a financial cliff.

social security and medicare. after all my own mother receives those benefits, and this son would never jeopardize that, right, mom. >> right. >> that's a creepy ad to me, but it's just a little weird having him look at his mother. of course his mother is going to want him to win. here is casey who is this is senator casey who is now trying to get his campaign going again. >> tom called the tea party budget quote, a good plan. it's the most radical in congress. a plan that would end medicare in two years even for current recipients and cut social security benefits by 40%. tea party tom smith extremely wrong for pennsylvania. >> yeah, it's really nice to see that they're playing the tea party there. obviously the issues for the elderly are important but it's one of those races that may lag behind the presidential race, a rare race if casey doesn't do as well as the president. the president is not going to

have coattails in a lot of these races, and a lot of senators are on their own. we go to pennsylvania because this is what we have for--in our live chat, connie pace said i would like to have coverage of sherrod brown. i live in cuyahoga county and he is my senator. large sums of money are being spent to defeat him. indeed, they are. the polling in that race has it a little tighter than it was for a while. a lot of polls have tightened. sherrod brown 47.8%. josh plan dell, mandel. watch this ad in ohio. >> named watchdog for strong fiscal performance. josh mandel, imagine these results in washington. sherrod brown, more debt, less jobs. time for a change. >> the guy looks older. i think i looked older at my bar

turns out he was washing pans that were not dirty. on the internet, tumblr decided they were going to pass along the links of people telling the story, and how to donate to the charity. conservatives are saying don't donate to the charity because they're saying the pans were not dirty. tumblr is saying, donate to the charity. people are going on the website and donating tons of money to charity, and it bit them--you know where it bit them. on "the young turks" we're going to stay within the congress with jesse jackson jr. and the problems he's having. >> federal investigators are looking into possible misuse of campaign funds to pay for a home remodeling job.

photographed smokeing a cigar on his stoop the other day. >> jackson has been on medical leave since june. he's been treated for bipolar disorder. federal investigators are looking into possible misuse of campaign funds to pay for a home remodeling job. my source told me that the money is somewhere around $20,000. the home in question is jackson's washington, d.c. home that went on the market last month for $2.5 million. because of security concerns public showings have since stopped. >> you know, that's not the only financial controversy that has plagued jackson. his deferment his wife, her firm has received $429,000 since july of 2003. they have received $429,000. that is from his campaign funds. he is still running for congress as we stand here speaking, and

of course the campaign funds have been used for redecorating his home, cigars, and his wife's consulting firm. with us is the author of that report from fox's newsroom in chicago, darlene hill. thanks for coming on "the young turks" today. >> hey michael how are you? >> i'm well. this guy is still running for congress and he's still going to win. >> he's still running for congress, and it does seem as if he's going to win. he has two opponents. a republican opponent as well as an independent. i talked to one of them every day who said to me, if he can't talk he should not be running. we have not heard from the man since june. his opponents there in the second congressional district, they're ready to hear from him and they're demanding a statement. >> they're ready to hear from him, they're demanding a statement, yet they're going to vote for him. >> like you said, he has been the congress in that district since 1995. a lot of constituents feel like

he has done a lot out there still has a lot to do. now they're getting to the point where they were trying to be there, trying to be supportive and understanding of his diagnosis, the bipolar disorder. now they're getting to the point where they're getting fed up. they want to hear from him and they don't want to be taken for granted. >> what are the things we've heard from jackson and his people and what his status is and whether or not he'll speak to his con sit went constituents as their congressman. >> he was spotted outside of his home. he had just picked up his children to school or was going to take them to school when a photographer and reporter saw him sitting outside of his steps smokeing a cigar. he told the reporter he's not doing well. my sources say he's not doing well. he is crying every few minutes. he's trying it figure out what is going on with the

investigation, what is going on politically, and he's at a point right now where he does not want to talk to anybody. apparently we're hearing also, that his father, the reverend jesse jackson stopped to see him, and he didn't even want to see him. the reporters outside of victoria in washington, d.c. that the family is giving serious thought to chick him back into the mayo clinic or another clinic so he can get some rest and go back to the prior congressman who is trying to get well. >> have the congressman or his family talked about resignation. >> they have not talked about that at all. as you said, everybody in every television station every newsroom newspaper they're all working their sources to try to figure out what is going to be his next step. a couple of stations in town today are reporting that he is, in fact, going to the mayo clinic. we have not been able to confirm that yet. that is something that the
